Week 9 – Self-Control
Self-control is the ability to control your emotions, behavior or desires in order to obtain something more important. Greatness does not come from the power to control others, but from the power to control yourself.
One word that the bible uses for self-control is meek. It is the habit that sets you free. Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth”.
Proverbs 25:28 “control”. Depending on your level of self-control, love can quickly become lust and pride can become arrogance.
We can develop self-control by following 5 basic steps:
- Develop safeguards in your life that will help you to do the right thing at all times and resist temptation
- Take care of yourself physically, eat well and get plenty of rest
- Practice delayed gratification
- Live in moderation
- Practice biblical meditation, read bible verses that will strengthen you in your areas of weakness
If you fail, ask God for forgiveness, forgive yourself and get back on the right path.
