The Race

The Race

What exactly are we all racing for?
Why are we all in such a rush?
What is “the end”?

Are we racing to finish the Boston Marathon?
Will that be then end, when we cross the finish line?
Or does that mean we have conditioned ourselves for the next run?

Are we racing to finish that project at work?
Will that be the end, when we finish the project?
Or does that mean we are ready for another one?

Are we racing to get married and start a family?
Will that be the end, when we have the 2 children and the white picket fence?
Or does that mean we are ready to get the dog and the cat too?

Are we racing to get that house in the best part of town?
Will that be the end, when we have the best of the best?
Or does that mean we will move when something better comes along?

Are we racing to get that new car before the neighbor does?
Will that be the end, when we have the shiny new Corvette in the garage?
Or does this do only until the neighbor gets the new Porsche?

When did life become such a race?
A race to be bigger and better and have more than others.
A race that makes us tired and bitchy and appreciate nothing.

Yes, nothing, until is it gone.
Slow down, breathe, relax.
Be satisfied with what you have.

Then you will have won the race.
Then it will be over.
Then you will be bigger and better and have more than others.
